Our latest window seat project has been in the making for a LOOONG time. While a few small details have changed throughout the building process, our drawer plans have always stayed the same. I knew I wanted the drawers to have the intricate details on the outside, but more importantly I wanted them to be functional. This drawer organization hack is one everyone could benefit from, and I’m here to share just how easily you can transform your drawers, too.

Our window seat was designed with the entire family in mind. Whether someone is reading, enjoying tablet time, playing video games, or watching TV — having easy access to enjoy our hobbies was very important to us. However, if you’re like me, having a bunch of unsightly cords laying around is a major pet peeve.

After searching for the best in-drawer outlet solution, it was very clear Docking Drawer had everything we wanted and more (I mean, look at this gorgeous brass cover!). We were specifically looking for something sleek, safe, versatile, easy to install, and could fit into our existing drawer.

Thankfully, Docking Drawer has created the easiest way to figure out which outlet is best for your specific drawer. Simply take this quick quiz, and Docking Drawer will tell you exactly which product is best for you.

Somehow, the window seat became a charging station, which was not what I had in mind when designing this space. Installing a Docking Drawer outlet has truly enhanced the organization and functionality of our window seat, and makes me smile every time I use it!

We installed the Blade Duo outlet, which connects up to 8 devices. It comes in multiple configurations as well as finishes. We chose the 2 AC + 2 USB-C + 4 USB-A in white, although I definitely want to replace it with the brass plate now!

Eventually we plan to build custom drawer organizers, but wanted to evaluate how we realistically use the drawers first. For now we use silicone zip ties to help organize the longer cords.

Having an in-drawer outlet has been an absolute game changer for organization and functionality. More importantly, its helped create better habits. Our kids know their devices have a home base, which helps keep tidier spaces, and a happier Momma!

Docking Drawer is the market leader for in-drawer electrical outlets. They focus on safe, innovative solutions that are designed to eliminate surface clutter, while creating functional and purposeful spaces. The best part is that you can install one of their outlets in a new build project, or an existing drawer like we did!

As for safety, Docking Drawer products are ETL Listed for use in the US & Canada. In short, this means every outlet is electrically certified by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTLs). They even offer an interlocking Thermostat that cuts power when surrounding temps exceed 120°F.

Furthermore, the included cable management arms (seen above) help guide and protect the power cord as the drawer opens and closes. To ensure durability, Docking Drawer outlets are cycle tested over 500,000 times, which is 20% more than required and the equivalent of opening and closing a drawer every 15 minutes over the span of 30 years.

Lastly, Docking Drawer is a give back brand. For every online order placed through their website, they will automatically donate a percentage to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, an organization committed to preventing and ending homelessness in the United States.

Each product includes a spec book, however Docking Drawer offers digital spec books and install videos as well. The books include extremely easy to follow step-by-step tutorials, including pro tips, incredible diagrams, and a perforated cut out template. This made the installation process feel fool proof! You can watch our installation process HERE.

There are so many spaces where an in-drawer outlet would add purposeful function. Kitchen drawers, kitchen appliance garages, command centers, vanities, gaming consoles, nightstands, office spaces, and closets, just to name a few! From residential to commercial, DIY to new builds, I assure you a Docking Drawer outlet will elevate your space and life.

We already have a few more places we plan to add a Docking Drawer outlet, so leave your questions below, tell us where YOU would install one, and stay tuned for step by step tutorials!
