Last week in my latest newsletter, I shared a snippet of our boys’ shared room refresh. While their room isn’t “finished” just yet, I’m excited to share a little bit more with you! It was a very dreary, pouring rain kind of day when I snapped these images, but to be honest, I actually like the softer, more moody lighting anyway. (all sources linked at the end)

Mrsjessicadarling shared boys room. They have two modern wood twin beds, with their names on a pennant above the headboard. Two gooseneck lamps facing each bed, on top of a dresser in between the beds.

How cute is their new name pennants?! It’s definitely their favorite part of the refresh, but before I get to what we’ve changed in here, let’s chat about what we reused, first!

What Stayed The Same

Not every room refresh requires a full scale reno. In fact, the biggest change we made in their room was the swap from bunks, to two separate twin beds. The wall paint stayed the same, as well as the rug, quilts, ceiling light, curtains and curtain rods. We even kept some of the same wall decor, the wall clock, pillows and their favorite reading/gaming chair!

What’s New

I can’t say enough about how much we love their new twin beds. Fortunately, we snagged them when they were 50% off during the WayDay sale, and I think they are perfect for a boys shared room. The warm wood tone makes it feel extra cozy, it was very easy to assemble, and feels sturdy and well made.

As for the white nightstand, we needed a very specific dimension to fit nicely between the two beds. This one was not only in stock (WIN!) at our local store, but was the exact minimalistic vibe I wanted, and will look great with new added knobs (whenever they decide to arrive).

A few other simple changes we made include the striped sheets, the matching gooseneck lamps, a small table clock, and the charming name pennants.

Striped sheets, velvet bedding, white metal and brass lamp, table clock, nightstand.

What’s Next

As for what’s left to do — we still have two other walls with exciting plans ahead! Our boys have been loving reading lately, so I want to add some shelves to hold their favorite books. I’m also working on a sweet mixed media gallery wall, so come on back to check it all out!

Hey love the updated rooms sooo cute. What colors did you use for the two tone paint theme, in love with both

    • Jessica Akemon says:

Hi Shannon! Thank you so very much. The top color is called “big chill” by Sherwin Williams. I will say, we originally painted the entire interior of the house this color (in 2015) and it does give off a purple undertone in certain light…just an FYI! The bottom half of the wall color is called, “Gotham Gray” by Valspar, and is a really great mix between a deep navy with dark gray undertones.

  2. Saida says:

I absolutely love the way it turned out Jessica! Very much my style! I’ll have to get one of the name signs for Noah! I love the green quilt the most ? great job!

    • Jessica Akemon says:

Thank you SO much, Saida! The boys LOVE their custom signs, and I think it’s such a sweet heirloom piece, too! Hope Noah loves his!

  3. Brooke says:

Hello! This room is amazingly inspirational! Can I ask what wood tone dresser would you do with this bed? I love this bed for my sons room but he needs a dresser. Thank you!

    • jessica says:

Thank you so very much! I think it depends on the rest of the space, but generally I would say either a much darker wood tone would contrast well with these beds! I have a white mini dresser in between the boys bed, which I think looks great against the darker paint! I think this works well since the doors and trim are also white paint 🙂

  4. Molly Lannen says:

SO cute! How did you hang the pennants?

  5. Tere Garcia Sol says:

Loved this as I was looking for bedroom inspo for my 2 boys! Can’t wait to see it qll!

    • jessica says:

Thank you so much! We’ve added a few changes, but it’s mostly still the same as seen here. Of course the boys have recently asked for their own rooms, so a refresh is coming!
