After revealing our DIY window seat last week, the most asked questions have been around our custom window seat cushion. This was our first time ever ordering a custom cushion, but after our wonderful experience with CushionPros, I guarantee it won’t be our last. They offer indoor and outdoor cushions/pillows, and you might have even sat on one at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport!
The customer service is above and beyond, and the timeliness of the fabric samples and cushion arrival were exceptionally fast. Most importantly, the cushion is exactly what we were hoping for, and perfectly completed our window seat. So let’s jump into the details, shall we?
THE FIRST STEP TO ORDERING YOUR WINDOW SEAT CUSHION
Honestly, the ordering process could not have been easier. To start, I highly recommend ordering a few fabric samples (you can use code JDARLING10 for 10% off, wahoo!). I think it’s so important to actually see the samples in the space. Hold them against your paint, hardware, floors, etc., and get the best idea of how your cushion will help tie it all together.
That being said, let’s say you haven’t found “the one” from their current fabric options, or maybe the one you like is on backorder, but you have found a fabric you love from elsewhere? No worries! Cushionpros will build your cushion using customer owned fabric, too! You simply ship the fabric to them, and they will get right to work! Speaking of, their cushions are made in the USA, specifically in the heart of Georgia, and I really enjoy watching the behind-the-scenes they share on their instagram.
HOW TO MEASURE FOR YOUR WINDOW SEAT CUSHION
Once you’ve decided on your fabric, the Cushion Designer tool on the homepage of their website makes the next 7 simple steps very straightforward.
Important to note: Cushionpros is responsible for creating a finished product within one-half of an inch tolerance of the dimensions provided by the customer.
With the one-half of an inch tolerance in mind, it was recommended we round down for our seat. For example, our exact dimensions were W: 106.25 H: 24 — so we selected W:106″ H: 24″ (more on this next). If anything, this ensures the seat will be slightly smaller, but not too big for the space. This was especially important since our seat is enclosed.
As for the depth, we chose to leave it at 24 inches (the exact measurement), which was a personal design choice. We hoped that by keeping the exact dimensions, the roundness of the edge would allow it to ever-so-slightly hang over the seat structure, and it turned out perfectly! Likewise, we also chose 4 inches for the thickness, solely as a personal design choice.
